About Gregorio Sgrigna

I am a Research Technologist since 2023 and I worked as a researcher (post-doctoral position) since January 2017 at the Research Institute of Terrestrial Ecosystems (IRET) within the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). I have been working in the urban forest and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) field since my Master's degree and I am now part of the NbS Italy HUB Team. Furthermore, I am also working on FAIR principles and big data management, mainly related to atmosphere Research Infrastructures. In my whole academic career, I have always been an enthusiastic participant in European and international initiatives: the Erasmus and Overseas projects at the UMA (Portugal) and UFRJ (Brazil) respectively. Then, through the international Ph.D. course, I collaborated with important European research centers (the Bioforsk in Norway, the SGGW in Poland), and the Antwerp University, Belgium) and I spent part of my doctorate at the University of Aveiro (Portugal). The Ph.D. period and the six years as a Postdoc allowed me to develop my communication skills by joining many international conferences. I participated in many oral presentations, among them: to the World Forum on Urban Forests,(Mantova); the COST Connect (Experts meeting, Sofia); the EU GreenWeek (Green Cities for a greener future, Bruxelles); the IUCN Experts round table (NBS Implementation in Mediterranean cities, Malaga); the World Green Infrastructure Congress (Berlin); the International Union of Forest Research Organization (Nice); and to the European Forum of Urban Forest (Lausanne and Milan). Through some specific experiences, I improved my knowledge of NbS and my expertise in communication science-policy and science-practice at the European and National level. The activity as Scientific Secretary for the Cost Action Greeninurbs was the first one. I also collaborated on the EKLIPSE report (evaluation framework to support NbS projects) and on the publication “Evaluating the Impact of Nature-based Solutions: A Handbook for Practitioners”. I finally managed (as project manager) the National PRIN project EUFORICC I am still working on this field, which I guess is going to draw growing attention from national and international institutions. As a researcher, I firmly believe that it is crucial to bring scientific findings to the improvement of human life conditions, even more so in this period characterized by growing environmental concerns together with green awareness.
