About Gregory Benoit

My experience in teaching and conducting research in culturally and linguistically diverse settings has prepared me to offer unique and valuable contributions to any position. My educational journey has led me to Teachers College at Columbia University where I' have successfully completed a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education. My dissertation, “Mathematics in Popular Culture; An investigation through Internet Memes,” is part of a larger body of work that examines the complex relationship between popular culture and mathematical identity. Throughout my doctoral program, I was the recipient of the Center for Professional Education of Teachers (CPET) fellowship and collaborated with NYDOE providing mathematics coaching and professional development to selective schools. In this role, I support in-service teachers to bring high-level, culturally relevant, inquiry-based teaching and learning to classrooms around New York City. These opportunities have allowed me to stay connected to classrooms, students, and issues in education and connect teachers to current research in the field of education. In addition to my work and educational research, I partnered the Institute of Play as their mathematics curriculum specialist where we focus on the new challenges teachers face with their students in this digital age and important issues related to the adaptation of the learning process towards students’ needs, preferences and requirements. My qualifications include 10+ years of vigorous teaching experience to numerous students in all grades of high school and levels of college with varying skill levels. My experiences have also led me to teach in 3 countries, that have helped me not only broaden my exposure but also cohesively blends theory and practice while evolving the state of pedagogy further. Innovation while staying grounded and having an intense work ethic are traits I possess and have pushed me to become the most effective educator I can be.
