Background

About Gregory G.

I started my career as a neuroscience student intent to understand more about the brain and the mind. I had the great fortune to make some meaningful discoveries. First, about the synaptic choreography of endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors. Describing endocannabinoids as “retrograde” synaptic messengers helped open new insights into mechanisms of neural plasticity and neuroprotection. It opened doors into understanding the biological basis of cannabis and its value as a therapeutic, and about our own biology of homeostasis, and of what it means to be well. I went on to direct collaborative research into the relationship between aerobic exercise and the endocannabinoid system, linking the ECS to the neurobiology of what I like to call “runner’s joy,” the sense of wellness and benefit that comes from exercise. I like to ponder the many, many ways that humans relate to cannabis. I’ve started to create more content to share on a new website: DrGerdeman.com. 🤓 As a full time college professor I learned to manage responsibilities and relationships very different ways. I performed in the classroom and teaching lab nearly every day! I took on important leadership and mentorship positions. I continued to research cannabinoid receptors and the evolutionary biology of the ECS, while developing new undergraduate curriculum in neuroscience, pharmacology, and even teaching general ed humanities! A connection to the business of cannabis was never far off! Since the early I’ve had many friends working to make a new industry out of cannabis as a medicine, and helped them to understand science. I’ve been talking about CBD since 2004! I’ve been blessed to work with incredible cannabis physicians, growers, breeders, chemists and thinkers. In 2015, I resigned my tenured college faculty position to co-found one of the first licensed medical cannabis companies in the state of Florida. Since then I’ve directed organic integrated pest management, helped design cultivation facilities and extraction labs, and directed formulations for multiple hemp extraction companies. I’ve won a successful cannabis dispensary license, and navigated the business of selling it.
