Background
About Gregory Jackson
Gregory Jackson is a national policy strategist, community organizer, and public health advocate working at the intersection of gun violence prevention, racial equity, and public safety innovation. A survivor of gun violence himself, Greg has spent the last decade advancing life-saving solutions at every level of government—from grassroots organizing to the White House. Greg currently serves as President of The Rocket Foundation, a national nonprofit launched in honor of the late rapper Takeoff, where he leads investments in community-based violence prevention programs across the country. Under his leadership, the foundation has worked to amplify the voices of frontline leaders, support local innovation, and shift national conversations on safety and healing. Previously, Greg served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Special Assistant to President Joe Biden. In this role, he played a key part in driving down homicides by over 30%, executing 54 presidential actions, implementing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—the first federal gun safety law in nearly 30 years—and overseeing $42 billion in violence prevention resources. In 2025, Greg launched his own consulting firm and began pursuing an Executive Master of Public Health (MPH) at Yale University, deepening his commitment to health-centered strategies that prevent violence, heal communities, and advance equity. His vision is to build a future where public health and public safety are integrated—particularly in Black and Brown communities disproportionately impacted by violence and systemic neglect. Greg began his career in the political arena, supporting President Barack Obama’s campaigns and later serving as National Field Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, where he led the largest midterm voter registration effort in U.S. history. Locally, he continues to serve as a mentor and advocate in Washington, D.C, where he first began organizing after surviving a near-fatal shooting as an innocent bystander in 2013. When he’s not advancing public safety and justice, Greg is a social athlete and sports enthusiast who enjoys golf, flag football, and long-distance running—having completed five half marathons since his recovery from gun violence.
