Background

About Gregory Kubacki

I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. I am passionate about research and thoroughly enjoy learning across all fields of science and engineering. I enjoy the unique challenge of asking a question to which there is no answer and taking on the task of systematically producing an answer through the scientific process. I am a corrosion scientist focusing on the processing-structure-property relationships related to electrochemical processes at alloy surfaces and utilizing this knowledge to design new alloys for improved performance. My work focuses on structural and biomedical alloys fabricated by traditional and additive manufacturing processes exposed to a wide variety of environments. I am particularly interested in how alloy chemistry and thermomechanical history affect microstructures of solid-state additively manufactured structural repairs and the resulting effect on long-term environmental performance. I am also interested in the electrolyte side of the interface, where understanding the effect of transient environments on oxide passivity and stability can help predict initiation events that lead to failure.
