About Gregory Leonard

I have provided earth and planetary science technical support and consultation for industry, government, and academia for over 30 years. I currently work at the University of Arizona with the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey, the world's most productive Near-Earth Object survey. I have discovered ~2200 (>5% of all known) near-Earth asteroids and 21 comets. Prior to this I conducted satellite-based remote sensing and field investigations of glacierized terrains for the Global Land Ice Measurements from Space project (GLIMS). This included bathymetric surveys on large, hazard-prone glacier lakes in the high Himalaya and other various mountain hazard investigations. Additionally I have vast experience in the mineral exploration industry in North America, Asia, and the Asia-Pacific region, including extensive field geologic and project management experience across a wide variety of precious and base metal deposit settings. In my explorations I’ve lived and worked in the equatorial jungles of Indonesia, across the Mongolian steppe, mountains, and Gobi desert, and in western North America. Through my consultancy services at Planetary Investigations LLC, I support research investigations on terrestrial planet geologic studies, image-based mapping and analysis, and Earth remote-sensing and field-based glacier studies.
