About Gregory MacCallion

Dr Gregory MacCallion is a strategist and academic practitioner at the forefront of Australian defence policy. With a strong academic foundation and extensive experience as a Defence policy officer, he offers advanced analytical skills, excellent representational capabilities, and deep expertise in force design and capability development. Gregory’s career in international relations spans the private sector, public service, and academia. He has spent many years studying, shaping, and implementing strategic policy. His government work includes contributions to key initiatives such as Australia’s first deterrence policies, the 2019 Force Structure Plan, and the 2022 ADF Theatre Operating Concept. He is passionate about Australian defence policy, and his grounding in history provides critical insight for guiding clients through both domestic and international strategic landscapes. He is the sole author of National versus Human Security: Australian and Canadian Military Interventions (Melbourne University Press, 2019), and has published extensively in book chapters, journals, and at international conferences on topics including security theory, strategy, foreign policy, and development. He is a recognised specialist in Australian and Canadian defence issues. With over a decade of teaching experience, Gregory also has proven capability across all aspects of pedagogy, including curriculum design and assessment development.
