About Gregory Saville

Specialties: Gregory Saville is an urban planner and criminologist with expertise in the prevention of crime. He is developer of the neighborhood planning method called SafeGrowth. He specializes in 1st & 2nd Generation CPTED, spatial forensics for crime scene analysis and problem-oriented policing to improve law enforcement responses in high crime areas. He is currently a Peer Reviewer for the Office of Justice Programs, United States Department of Justice. Over the past few years, he delivered programming in Europe, the U.S, Canada Australia, and New Zealand. His work in New York with the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice involved efforts to cut crime and build social cohesion in public housing. He co-delivered, with Gerard Cleveland, emotional intelligence and resilience programs to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Colorado Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Revenue. In 2007 he launched SafeGrowth at the UN-Habitat conference in Chile and at the Canadian Institute of Planners Conference in Quebec City. Since then it has been sponsored by organizations such as the Ottawa Police Service, the New York Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, the City of Saskatoon, the national non-profit Local Initiatives Support Corporation, and the California and Louisiana chapters of AARP. Over the past 30 years, Gregory Saville has published over 50 articles and research studies on crime prevention and police training in professional periodicals and peer-reviewed journals. He is the author and editor of SAFEGROWTH: BUILDING NEIGHBORHOODS OF SAFETY AND LIVABILITY (Amazon.com), co-author of YOU IN BLUE - A GUIDE FOR THE NEW COP, and SWIFT PURSUIT - A CAREER SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR FEDERAL OFFICERS (with Gerard Cleveland). He also recently published his research on spatial forensics and criminal target selection in "The Evolution of Spatial Forensics into Forensic Architecture: Applying CPTED and Criminal Target Selection" in FORENSIC SCIENCE: EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN DIVERSE SETTINGS (Ashgate Publishing, 2018).
