About Gregory Shields

As a psychiatrist, I provide psychologically-informed psychiatric care to adults suffering from depression, anxiety, sleep problems, post-traumatic stress, bipolar disorder, psychosis or unusual experiences, neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, and personality and interpersonal problems. I have a special interest in working with people (and families) dealing with serious illness such as cancer, and draw on several psychotherapeutic approaches in my work. I completed my medical studies in Australia before moving to the United Kingdom in 2009. I specialised in Adult Psychiatry, Liaison Psychiatry, and Neuropsychiatry at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust before joining the King’s Haematology Institute as Consultant Psychiatrist and Co-Lead of their Mind and Body Programme. I have trained in several psychotherapy modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), and Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM). I have been involved in medical education and training throughout my career and have extensive experience in designing, developing, and delivering training programmes to a variety of medical and non-medical audiences. I am currently Senior Manager and Masterclass Lead at Maudsley Learning, an NHS-based mental health and training organisation. I also work with pharmaceutical companies and public sector organisations to run training for their staff and clientele. I was previously Educational Projects Lead with the World Psychiatric Association and developed the Graduate Diploma of International Psychiatry and Foundations of International Psychiatry online courses with the University of Melbourne.
