About Grier Phillips

Born in North Carolina, I have slowly migrated to the Northwest. I began my professional life as a college level professor of research writing, composition, and poetry. I decided to become a nurse after meeting with a student that wrote about her experience as a hospice volunteer - proof that teachers learn from their students in significant ways. After earning my BSN at University of Washington I worked inpatient on an oncology floor before moving to a ground breaking immunotherapy clinic. It was there that I reflected on my initial inspiration for becoming a nurse and I moved into hospice nursing. I now work as a Care Coordinator in a busy ED. All of my nursing positions have employed my personal strengths, background in education, and expertise in clinical nursing practice. Strong communication skills and a deep appreciation of the art of nursing have driven me to be a patient advocate and patient educator. Keeping true to my past life as a teacher, I have found it deeply rewarding to precept new nursing students as well as experienced nurses changing specialties. I am currently working toward my MSN in Nursing Leadership and Management and am seeking a leadership position that utilizes my unique background and skillset. I look forward to becoming an authentic leader that promotes joy in the workplace and supports our nurse force to remain in the profession and thrive. I am willing to relocate as I have friends all over the U.S and I am excited about the next adventure ahead.
