Background
About Griffin Cook
Eagle Scout with creativity, intelligence, strong work ethic, and communication skills looking to refine the skills and apply the knowledge gained at NCSU in a problem-solving environment. Prior experience in public-facing jobs (bartender & and election polling support), combined with managing BSA summer camps has given me great and sometimes eye-opening experiences in usually fast-paced environments. During the past summer, I had the opportunity to intern at WestRock earning my Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt while working on decreasing machine downtime on a factory floor. I was able to take the skills I had learned in the classroom and successfully apply them in a real-world environment working on projects to improve process efficiency and effectiveness. During October 2021, I took part in a NCSU Study Abroad program that sent me to Rome, Italy for a week. It was a small group of 13 students, one TA, and one professor. Our purpose was to study ancient Roman engineering in the context of modern engineering achievements. We also evaluated and analyzed how their accomplishments remain standing today. My favorite part was the tour of the Colosseum (Coliseum to the uninitiated). When our tour guide, a student of Roman Architecture, discovered that she was guiding a group of engineers, she was truly excited. Needless to say, our tour topics and conversation covered more than "Over there is where the ancient gladiators lived". Rome is a beautiful city, but the Colosseum is a magnificent structure that everyone should see in person. My Senior project at Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, NC) was establishing the school's first e-sports club. My proposal included the growth of the e-sports community in 2018/19, ways to fund the group, and securing a teacher advisor. In my Senior year, I was the Co-President, we had over 120 students involved in the club, playing 20 games online, and our highest finish was 3rd place in a weekend-long regional tournament of Rainbow Six Siege.
