While tried becoming a sufficient mechanical engineer, Egyptology finally won. He Holds a BA degree in Archaeology (University of the Aegean, Rhodes, Greece), an MA degree in Egyptology (University of Liverpool, UK) and a PhD in Egyptology (University of the Aegean). His research interests include aspects of social life in the New Kingdom Egypt, Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs, epigraphy as archaeological survey with the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). He is specialized in the relations between Egypt, the Aegean, and the Near East in the 2nd and 1st Millennia BC, in foreigners, ethnicity as the problem of otherness in the New Kingdom Egypt. Dr. Kontopoulos has participated and was a member of the organizing committee in several workshops and conferences. He is one of the Greek members at the International Association of Egyptologists (2008-til today) and one of the founding and research members of the University of the Aegean Egyptological Research Group (UAERG). Alongside Egyptology, Dr. Kontopoulos has extensive experience in the Sales discipline as well as academic mentoring, currently working as an educational consultant at Metropolitan College, the leading educational institution in Greece.
