Background

About Guido Bosch

My research interests are in the field of nutrition of cats and dogs, and in particular in appetite regulation and in vitro digestion methodologies for screening (potential) ingredients for pet foods. In addition, the impact of food/feed processing technology on nutritional quality and acceptance will become a key research area. As a PostDoc researcher, I am involved in evaluating the nutritional value of insects as alternative protein sources in diets for companion animals (fish, birds, dogs and cats). This project is part of the part of the strategic research programme "Customised Protein Nutrition" of Wageningen University and Research Centre. Before this project, I focussed on appetite-related research within "Satiety & Satisfaction" programme with the aim to study the underlying pathways by which fibres regulate appetite in pigs (also as a human model). The impact of diet composition and form on appetite in animals continues to be part of my research topics as well as developing methods to measure appetite in animals, mainly in cats. Co-supervisor of a Ph.D. project on the impact of processing conditions of pet foods on the Maillard reaction (Carbohydrate Competence Center project). Supervisor of mainly MSc thesis and internship students and coordinator of the BSc course Companion Animals of Wageningen University. As a Ph.D. candidate I studied the impact of nutrition on behaviour in dogs, largely focussing on impact of fibres on appetite using behavioural and physiological indicators. Specialties: Appetite regulation, digestive physiology, in vitro digestion and fermentation methods, applied ethology, food/feed processing technology.
