Background
About Guilherme Andreas
Andreas is a multifaceted flutist, music educator, vocalist and music director/arranger. One of his first musical memories was showing up at choir rehearsals conducted by his father, where he learned the soprano and alto parts on his own, and according to his mother, sang louder than everyone else. At age 22, he won the principal flute position with the Brazilian Marines Wind Symphony in Rio de Janeiro – his first professional music job, where he performed throughout South America. After surviving the unending and, at times, tortuous shouting of his Marine Drill Sergeant, Andreas gained the confidence to face anything that comes with being a professional musician. Andreas received 1st Prize in multiple competitions as both soloist and chamber musician. One competition led him to receive a scholarship to attend James Madison University in Virginia. During his graduate studies, he performed the Reinecke Flute Concerto with the University's Orchestra. Andreas continued his graduate studies at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore,Maryland. A highpoint of his time at Peabody was his performance of the Nielsen Flute Concerto with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. Andreas has been an active performer and music educator throughout the U-S, and his debut album Beyond Bossa Nova has been received with great acclaim to all audiences in the US and other countries. His most recent performances include guest appearances with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival with The Unsung Collective and the Kennedy Center Honors Concert Orchestra. Andreas is currently based in New York, where he dedicates his time to performing, teaching, and discovering historically lessen-known composers, whose works express extreme ranges of emotions and demand tremendous virtuosity. Andreas is a NAAS Musician and he is also affiliated with the Sphinx Organization. Andreas is a prolific educator as well, and has experience as a coach and music teacher (general music, choral music, vocal music, band, music technology and music theater). His most recent experiences have been in New York City, where he has been devoted to providing access to excellent music lessons to underserved students and their communities.
