About Gustavo Rigon

I am a proactive and passionate arts and society researcher with a background in art direction and design for communication. Ultimately, I am looking for an internship to conclude my master's programme in Arts and Society at Utrecht University, but also open to a potential job opportunity. I wish to contribute by putting into practice my past experiences and the recent training acquired within museums, theatres, art institutes/collectives or research centres. I believe that I will be able to contribute as an assistant to curators, programme and exhibition designers, theatre makers and researchers/professors. During my MA, I focused on the relationship between and within the arts, especially theatre and performance studies, archaeology, political art, curating, and societal debates, mainly feminist, queer, postcolonial and posthuman studies. My thesis, “Smashing statues: the performative and archaeological dimensions of collective vandalism” does a dramaturgical analysis on the formation of archaeology as a “social performance”. The topple-down and redisplay of Colston statue in the local museum is the research object where performance and processes of curating shape our experience with the past-present. Moreover, it provides another perspective on radical political movements such as Black lives matter and the relevancy of the subject in a postcolonial society.
