About Guy Daines

I have worked for CILIP, and one one of its predecessor bodies The Library Association, since 1989. I have held a variety of posts in that time, starting off as Assistant Director (Employment & Resources), but all posts have contained a professional policy element. From 2007-2011 I was part of the Senior Management Team at CILIP. Prior to joining the staff at the Library Association I worked for the public library service in the London Borough of Camden. Again a variety of posts across most departments, but as well as working in branch libraries, the reference service and the cataloguing department, I was for six years (1982-8) Local Government Information Officer, providing an information service to Members of Council and senior officers in Council Departments. I went to "library school" at what was then the College of Librarianship, Wales (1975/6) and is now part of Aberystwyth University and gained a history degree from Cambridge University (Kings College)(1970-73). I became a chartered member of the Library Association in 1977. Since 2005 I have been a Fellow of the RSA. Outside work I enjoy walking, listening to music and watching cricket. I am also an active church member serving as Treasurer on the PCC of my local parish church.
