About Guy Gratton

Guy Gratton is a Chartered Aeronautical Engineer also holding a PhD, and current flying instructor, commercial pilot and test pilot qualifications, who has an international reputation for his research work on aviation safety, and extensive print and broadcast media experience. He has worked across military and civil aviation, including airborne research, airworthiness, and publishing 32 papers in peer reviewed journals (as well as books on microlight flying, initial airworthiness, and on engineering dissertations). He has taught aerospace engineering subjects at all levels, including PhD supervision, taken various roles in the creation of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and acted as an expert witness in many cases related to air accidents. Guy has managed research projects in the UK and overseas, and also two high profile research facilities – FAAM at Cranfield for 6 years, and MoD Environmental Test Facilties at Boscombe Down for 1 year. Most recently his work has focussed on the overlaps between environmental science and aeronautics, and he heads the Aircraft Test and Evaluation Group at Cranfield University.
