About Guy Harling

Senior epidemiologist and data scientist with 20+ years’ experience in designing, implementing, and analysing large-scale population health and survey-based studies. Expertise spans survey methods, statistical modelling and causal inference. Experienced team leader and mentor of junior colleagues. Collaborator across governments, research institutions, NGOs, and funders. Passionate about advancing data-driven public policy through rigorous methods, robust data, and clear communication. Research focus on social factors which put individuals at risk for ill health, particularly how risk and protection is shared through social connections. Outcome have included HIV, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infection, Covid-19, Ebola, caregiving, adolescent sexual and mental health and vaccine demand. Worked collaboratively in South Africa for over 20 years, also with colleagues in Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Tanzania, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Teaching focus on graduate-level social determinants of health and biostatistics.
