About Gwen Christopherson

I care deeply about the environment and have always felt very connected to the Earth. As countless Black and Indigenous artists, theorists, and activists have made clear, humans are not separate from nature, and understanding this is essential as we move towards climate justice. During my college career I worked to help people recognize their interconnectedness with the nonhuman world by providing place-based environmental education to K-12 students surrounding the Great Salt Lake ecosystem, co-creating pieces for the Daily Utah Chronicle about environmental issues using photography, and organizing my community to demand tangible water conservation efforts from local and state representatives and other influential organizations throughout Utah. In my work as a massage therapist I helped clients reconnect with and feel good in their own bodies. Based on the knowledge in adrienne maree brown’s Pleasure Activism, I see bodywork as deeply political and a direct rejection of the systems of oppression that have separated us from our bodies and the Earth as a means for continued extraction and exploitation. Now, I am interested in working with organizations who center social justice, sustainability and community and am excited to contribute strong interpersonal and organizational skills as I enter the non-profit world.
