About Hadar Harris

Hadar Harris is an award winning human rights attorney and institution builder whose work focuses on civic enfranchisement, gender equality, freedom of expression and association, protecting closing civil society space and domestic implementation of international norms. She focuses on practical (and realistic) implementation of the broad range of human rights norms and enjoys grappling with hard intersectional questions to find real solutions. She believes strongly that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights (and obligations). Hadar has moved between public and private sector work throughout her career. She has been successful as a nonprofit executive, building organizations and streamlining them as needed. A member of the California Bar (currently inactive), she practiced employment and labor law and worked as General Counsel of an internet start up company. She spent fifteen years in academia, building centers and organizations impacting a range of issues. She has worked as a consultant to major human rights organizations and international organizations. She sits on a number of nonprofit boards of directors, has been engaged in philanthropic grant making, and is an active volunteer. Hadar brings a comparative perspective of cross-sectoral work in over 25 countries. She is most interested in maximizing programmatic impact and exploring emerging intersections in law and policy around the range of human rights issues. She is a dynamic public speaker and engaging trainer, as well as an excellent strategist, advocate, program designer, fundraiser, and educator.
