About Hadley Patterson

I am very pleased to say that I am able to contribute sustainable, clean power generation in my role as a Turbine Systems Engineer at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant. For as long as I can remember, I have believed in sustainability and environmental consciousness. Of course, six-year-old me would have said something more along the lines of "save the penguins!", but the sentiment never changed. What did change was my perspective. Today we live in a world full of lights and computers and batteries, and it is utterly astounding how often we rely on these items. These things all require power to operate, and it is something that many of us take for granted. While studying at Colorado State University, a few really amazing professors opened my eyes to just how much we rely on electricity. More importantly, they opened my eyes to where it comes from: coal, natural gas, and an almost disappointingly small contribution from other sources. Considering the scale of the power generation industry, that has some pretty substantial impacts on our planet. Every contribution we can make to clean power generation is a valuable one.
