About Hafsa Iftikhar

I started my training as a research associate in Biochemistry and structural Biology lab at LUMS by working on the project aimed at the expression and purification of HIV-1 glycoprotein (gp120) in mammalian expression system. During my doctoral research, I have implemented Bioinformatics and Biochemical approaches, along with structural Biology for the purpose of identification of new potential inhibitors targeting HCV and SARS-CoV-2. I also provided my expertise in other research projects that were on going in Biochemical and structural Biology lab. During DAAD sponsored fellowship at Helmholtz centre for infection research I got an opportunity to learn and apply X-ray crystallography into my research project. I also experienced and appreciated cultural diversity there. During my M.Phil, I worked on characterisation of diverse USDA minicore panel of rice germplasm using Molecular and Biochemical approaches. I mainly contributed in the realm of viruses by employing Biochemical and structural Biology approaches. My work is published in reputed journals including Computers in Biology and Medicine and Molecules I believe my strong educational background in Biochemistry and structural Biology with research focused in drug discovery against viral proteins would enable me to make a strong contribution to the scientific community.
