About Hailey Briscoe

Throughout my career I have pursued both a strong foundational understanding and practical experience in minority health research and community engagement through nonprofit work. Currently I serve as the Grant Manager at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, managing the logistics and maintaining a standard of excellence across all active grants for the organization. I am also serving at term as Board Secretary at Elms Family and Community Services. Recently I received my Masters degree with a dual-title in Social Work and Infant Mental Health from Wayne State University, while providing direct service to two organizations in the city of Detroit - The Children’s Center and Positive Images. I graduated in May 2019 with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Gender & Health (a new major at UofM investigating health disparities and issues through both a public health and feminist lens) and a minor in Biochemistry. I have gained a bevy of technical experience, from working in several chemistry and biology labs for class and internships. Including my time in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program where we worked in a lab analyzing biological samples of patients in Mexico City to learn the effect of pollution on their vitals. Following which we worked in an ethnographic lab to get both a biological and anthropological understanding of the behaviors and daily environment of the patients that led to these high lead levels. All of this work stems from my passion to address, understand, and combat health issues that disproportionally affect minority communities. This passion led me all the way to Ghana in the summer of 2018, in partnership with the University of Michigan, where my partner and I worked in a rural village to conduct research on maternal mortality.
