About Hailey Buckley

I attained my Bachelor of Arts with Honours from Algoma University in 2019. My specializations were English and History with a minor in French. I am currently enrolled at the University of Alberta in my second semester of my Master of Library and Information Studies. I have experience working in both an academic library and an archival setting with Wishart Library and the Shingwauk Residential Schools Center (SRSC) respectively. In addition to my time with SRSC, I co-founded a project in 2021 with archivist Krista McCracken that is deeply connect to Algoma University’s Special Mission and the Seven Grandfather Teachings as the project seeks to interview Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors of Shingwauk about their experiences outside of Residential School and their respective healing journeys. This project also provided me with the opportunity to further develop my communication skills as I learned how to be a better listener through hearing various knowledge keeper’s stories. I believe the skills attained through this project absolutely translate into improved customer service with library patrons, staff, and faculty as this type of work requires a deep level of patience and understanding. I am also well versed in MS Office and G-Suite as I use both of these for school and for my position as an Access Services Technician. I work well both individually and as a member of a team, and I have prior knowledge working in an automated environment due to my years of work on the George Whalley Research Project. I would love to continue to develop my knowledge of integrated library systems as well.
