About Hailey Butenhoff

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies in addition to certificates in Disability Rights and Services as well as Gender and Women's Studies. After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree, I plan on obtaining a certification in lactation consulting and pursuing a career of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. My ultimate goal is to support and care for mothers while they navigate feeding their babies. The postpartum period is such a significant period in the mother and baby's life and a healthy relationship with feeding is essential to positive growth and development for both. I will be able to use my knowledge from my degree in Human Development and Family Studies to educate mothers as well as provide emotional support during such a vulnerable time. Previously, I have worked as a Resident Assistant at an assisted living facility and a caregiver for four young children, and I am currently working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a women's health clinic. All of these settings have provided me with valuable knowledge and skills surrounding not only the field of healthcare, but also in regards to the specific population that I will be working with: children and mothers. At my current clinic, I work with a team of healthcare workers to provide the best possible care for women through effective communication, planning, assessment, and teamwork. I am interested in exploring different courses and field opportunities that will help me advance and pursue my career as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
