About Hailey Darrow

Growing up I always had a passion for science. As a kid, I loved everything from being in nature, to visiting aquariums, to dissecting owl pellets on my kitchen counter. As I got older, I decided to further my science knowledge and share my passion with others. Throughout my educational career I discovered that I had a love for teaching and communicating the marvels of the natural world. Since then I have had opportunities to work in unique locations around the world and have learned valuable skills along the way. I began my career teaching 4th-12 graders marine science on Catalina Island. This position allowed me to teach students science concepts while giving them confidence in their abilities in an outdoor environment. Guiding students through the experience of being in the ocean for the first time and overcoming their fears was truly inspiring. I also was able to collaborate with other instructors to develop curriculum, train new staff members, and organize camp logistics. During the summers I was fortunate enough to travel to the Dominican Republic and Australia to lead service trips with high school students. Through managing these students I was able to give back to the communities we lived in and teach about environmental conservation. Recently, I had the opportunity to work in Alaska and develop curriculum for public outreach programs. I was able to design and teach a weekly preschool program as well as write and produce video lessons for our virtual audience. Additionally, I collaborated with the social media and marketing team to create promotional content. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, reading, finding the best spots to eat with friends, and going on outdoor adventures. Going forward in my career I strive to be part of a more inclusive environmental movement. My goal is to increase accessibility to scientific knowledge for a wide demographic, inspire stewardship, and interact with communities through meaningful outreach opportunities. I am open to new opportunities that allow me to teach, travel, and be outdoors while communicating my love of science!
