About Haley Hinze

I am excited to start my public interest legal career with Civitas Law Group. I was admitted into the State Bar of Wisconsin in May of 2018. From August of 2016 to October of 2017 I was a law clerk at Schwei & Wendt, a family law firm in Brookfield, Wisconsin. As a law clerk I had the opportunity to analyze family law statutes and apply them to a client's unique set of facts. I also researched complicated legal issues and wrote persuasive Trial Briefs. Furthermore, I communicated with clients and performed clerical work. In the summer of 2017 I interned with the Milwaukee County Public Defender's Office, Drug Treatment Court Team. I greatly appreciate the importance of alternatives to incarceration programs and value the community based approach to help solve the city's substance abuse epidemic. During my time at the Public Defenders Office, I interviewed many clients and honed in on my active listening skills. I observed and assisted my supervising attorney counsel clients. I participated in the Drug Treatment Court team staffings and observed court proceedings. In the summer of 2016 I interned at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, Guardian Ad Litem Division. I felt strongly connected to my work at the GAL Division because of the Division's strong belief in social justice. I learned a significant amount about the Children's Code and observed many Children's Court proceedings. I assisted a supervising attorney in preparing a brief and helped another attorney prepare for a Termination of Parental Rights trial. I found the work to be extremely challenging and meaningful. In the past I have dedicated over 200 hours of service at the Milwaukee Justice Center as a volunteer intern. My dedication to service and the Milwaukee community demonstrates my strong passion for advocating for those who are the most vulnerable in our community and I am well aware of the qualities necessary to work with clients regarding personal and difficult subjects.
