Background
About Haley Martinez
In this role with ICT, I'm able to align my education, extensive nonprofit fundraising & development experience, and personal passion for elevating the voices and stories of Indigenous peoples "often ignored or misunderstood by mainstream media" and am thrilled to be a part of ICT's important work and impact. Previously, I served as Development Director for Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, working to build, nurture and sustain partnerships and secure financial investments to support the Foundation’s three key program areas, and elevate the field of early childhood education – and nature-based learning – in Nebraska and beyond. I have also served as Assistant Director of Operations with Big Brothers Big Sisters Lincoln, and Grant & Contract Manager for Heartland Family Service in Omaha - a multi-service nonprofit that provides education, counseling, and support services to help people overcome a wide array of challenges. Additionally, I have provided various grant writing, development, and consultation services to Alaska Native communities as a Project Coordinator. In addition, Iv written grants for a nonprofit community mental health center in Denver, and an immigrant and human rights-based organization in Tucson. I have also provided direct support services to children/youth in various group home settings. In my career I am able to utilize my skills, education, and passion for youth/family/community health and well-being by cultivating partnerships and support for valuable projects and programs that positively impact the community. In May 2012, I graduated from the University of Arizona with an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies via the American Indian Studies program. During my graduate career, I worked on two major projects within two separate reservation communities in Nebraska and New York, developing materials and implementing strategies for language and culture-based curriculum development within early childhood and K-8 education. Both projects were well received and have since been applied in both communities. In 2008, I received a BA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in History with Native American & Ethnic Studies minors. I served on campus-based student organizations, held management and supervisory positions outside of school, and participated in numerous volunteer opportunities that have contributed to my professional development and diverse background. My expertise includes: grants/contract management, supervision/mentorship, youth/child social services, and language/culture-based curriculum development.
