About Haley Weinstein

Hello! I am Haley Weinstein, an MEM candidate at the Yale School of the Environment, specializing in energy. I hold a B.S. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara, where I spent my time in ecology labs and at field sites, interning at nature reserves, and leading community-based reforestation and education efforts. I entered the world of clean energy after an inspiring course at the Iceland School of Energy. After, I took energy courses at UCSB and I conducted an independent thesis. In my thesis, I created a model to quantify emissions reductions from decreased air conditioning use, driven by the cooling effects of widespread electric vehicle adoption in cities. I explored how EVs may help mitigate the urban heat island effect, revealing a hidden and understudied climate benefit of vehicle decarbonization. I joined the Clean Coalition shortly after as the Communications Lead. There, I had the opportunity to publish articles, moderate panels of experts, and conduct technical analyses of solar microgrids. My growing fascination for complex energy problems and search for tangible solutions has guided my work in renewable energy, and I am looking forward to contributing to these solutions throughout my career.
