Background
About Halley Kartchner
After a successful career in science education, I am eager to work in a field that I pursued in my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I have earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a master’s degree in Human Dimensions of Ecosystem Science and Management. My experience working in public schools for the past 10 years has helped me to develop a wide array of skills. Throughout my career, I have worked on many collaborative teams with teachers, principals, and parents, which would transfer well to communicating with various clients and stakeholder groups. I am also skilled in public speaking and breaking down complex, technical information into easy-to-understand topics. Through careful attention to detail, I have developed strong problem-solving skills that allow me to navigate complex challenges efficiently. I also have a thorough knowledge of how biological and ecological systems work and what is required to maintain a healthy environment. Throughout my college years I developed the skills to conduct research and analyze data in a laboratory setting. As an undergraduate, I worked in a soil analysis lab where I tested samples from southern Utah and also from Central America. My thesis work in graduate school focused on how to remediate ecosystems degraded by invasive weeds using ecological principles. Additionally, I conducted focus groups with land managers to assess their knowledge of invasive plants and then constructed a curriculum for college students and land managers based on the principles of the EBIPM (Ecologically-based Invasive Plant Management) program. I am very passionate about restoring degraded ecosystems and creating a more sustainable future.
