About Hanh Bui

Hanh Bui is a Geophysicist working at the Alberta Geological Survey/Alberta Energy Regulator. She is enrolled as a Geoscientist-In-Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. Hanh is passionate about passive seismic monitoring of induced and natural earthquakes. She obtained a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Alberta under the supervision of Prof. Mirko van der Baan. Her PhD project focused on processing and analyzing microseismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing activities in a Montney reservoir. The main work included improving automated event detection (fast matched filter, sparse Gabor transform) and location (3D quadratic interpolation) algorithms, estimating source mechanisms using moment tensor inversion, and integrating microseismic data processing results with completion data, well data, geology, and geomechanics to understand the leading causes of anomalous microseismic behavior between treatment stages.
