About Hank Wirth

I am a board certified pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where I am currently completing a fourth year research fellowship in global health. I take care of children with congenital and acquired heart disease in the pre- and post-operative phases and currently manage patients in the outpatient world and the cardiac step down unit. My research interests include the epidemiology of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease and understanding ways to better detect and prevent them in resource limited settings. I am a junior researcher with the Rheumatic Heart Disease Research Collaborative in Uganda, a consortium of international investigators working to eradicate RHD through insights gained through our work in country. My work is currently funded through an NIH and American Heart Association Early Career Investigator Award to develop novel AI based strategies to improve the breadth and depth of echocardiography screening in Uganda. I am additionally pursuing a Masters of Science in Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Cincinnati. I’m a husband and father of two amazing and humbling little kids. My personal interests include American history, fitness, early 90s hip hop, mid 70s outlaw country, trimming my golf handicap, shooting hoops in my backyard, and world travel. My daughter says my pony tails get a B- in quality but an A+ in effort. I am a dirty martini enthusiast and I am equipped to drive a manual transmission. Here Come The Irish. Go Heels. Let’s Go O’s.
