Background
About Hannah Dennett
I am currently a History PhD candidate based at the University of Warwick. My project is an AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Collaborative Doctoral Award, working in partnership with the Foundling Museum, London. I am researching the lives of black children received into the Foundling Hospital during the eighteenth century, and investigating the connections of the governors and benefactors to colonial trade and slavery, in order to examine questions of race, gender and empire within the context of the charity. I have experience of curating, and working with partners in the Museums and Heritage, having recently curated the exhibition 'Forgotten Foundlings: African and Asian Children at London's Foundling Hospital' at the Foundling Museum. During my PhD I have worked as a Senior Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching Year 1 undergraduate history modules which focused on the early modern period, and developing academic skills. I graduated with distinction in MA History at Nottingham Trent University, having been awarded a Pathway Scholarship to do so after gaining a first class BA (Hons) in History at NTU. Having undertaken both degrees as a mature student, I have applied many skills acquired through 14 years' experience as a fully qualified teaching assistant to enable me to achieve academic excellence whilst maintaining the highest standards in my work. I am highly skilled at working in a primary education setting across Key Stage 2, having had responsibility for supporting children with additional needs, and delivering teaching in small group and whole class contexts. My previous academic research has focused on marginalised mothers, illegitimacy and infanticide in the early modern and Victorian periods.
