About Hannah Durrant

When I was ten years old, my teacher gifted everyone in the class their own personalised book, chosen specifically for them. It was a book about dragons, called Dragonsdale: Riding the Storm by Salamanda Drake.I'm sure Mrs Smith would be proud to see that currently I've just finished a degree that facilitates that love—creative writing and professional writing and publishing, with first class honours. It was a no brainer for me to enrol, and I've learnt a lot along the way, from SEO optimisation, review writing, and a refined creative writing skillset, among others. Ultimately, university has given me perfect exposure to what I do best; interacting with people. Combined with my retail and customer service experiences, working with my peers on their creative endeavours through workshopping and feedback has become a notable skill of mine, something which I bring to all aspects of my life.My community presence is a perfect example of this; a recent nominee of my netball club's annual Club Person of the Year Award, I've been involved in my local netball community from a young age. I have experience in coaching, captaining and umpiring, all of which have been a great application of the leadership and people skills I've cultivated over the years.Being able to combine my love of reading and writing, as well as my natural inclination of working closely with those around me, is something I would love to gain more tangible work experience in. My recent work with WA Poets has only given me a taste of what's to come, and I would love to see how I can bring my skillset to publishing houses and other professional writing opportunities for the benefit of everyone involved.
