Background
About Hannah Everage
I’m a publishing professional and freelancer with hands-on experience in editorial operations, marketing, and public engagement, and am deeply committed to building a career around books. I recently completed the Columbia Publishing Course, a six-week intensive covering all aspects of book, magazine, and digital media publishing. This immersive experience broadened my understanding of the industry’s evolving landscape, connected me with industry professionals, and strengthened my dedication to work that amplifies voices, fosters community, and engages readers in meaningful ways. In my freelance work, I offer services in copyediting, copywriting, and marketing. I’ve collaborated with scholars to refine academic manuscripts for clarity, tone, and adherence to style guides, as well as led marketing campaigns from concept to execution. I enjoy transforming complex ideas into clear writing and compelling content while ensuring accuracy and meeting tight deadlines. Alongside freelancing, I serve as the Library Services Intern at the Charleston Library Society, working across departments to support author events, facilitate Q & As, and create SEO-optimized social media content and promotional copy. I also contribute to archival preservation by transcribing and digitizing 19th-century city records, safeguarding rare manuscripts, and assisting with collection management and public research access. From August 2024 to June 2025, I worked as Book Review Editorial Assistant for Gender & Society, a top-ranked sociology and gender studies journal. In this role, I optimized database systems, implemented analytics tools, expanded reviewer demographics, and evaluated books for alignment with scholarly trends and journal priorities. I also managed communications with publishers and reviewers, coordinated deadlines, and edited reviews for publication. Before Gender & Society, I was Marketing Coordinator for two years at Class 101 College Planning, where I led SEO-driven blog and social media initiatives that helped the Cypress location earn the #1 ranking among 78 franchises. Whether editing, managing data systems, coordinating events, or creating content, I bring a detail-oriented approach, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for making information accessible, engaging, and impactful. My goal is to continue growing my career in publishing—particularly in roles that connect books with the readers who will love them. I am always eager to connect with fellow writers, editors, and readers.
