About Hannah Hickling

I am a Software Engineer, who is always up for a challenge and loves the opportunity to learn new skills. I always go the extra mile to produce work to the best of my ability and aid others where possible. I have recently been expanding into User Experience Design and have found this area of a business to be extremely rewarding. My main strengths are based around Web Development. I am particularly proficient in PHP and JavaScript/TypeScript, with a strong working knowledge of React and NextJS. I have been exposed to a lot of legacy code bases with bespoke MVC frameworks as opposed to the more popular modern ones, however, I am very keen to break this cycle and have the chance to use these in the commercial space. Alongside development, I have managed projects, including planning a project from root to finish and liaising with other developers and the QA team to ensure that each phase of the project is more efficient than the last. Previously, I acted as a team leader and put forward ideas in a confident and appropriate manner. I took on director responsibilities to avoid the loss of a major client during a critical period. I am a strong communicator, having explained concepts to various different teams and clients in terms that they can understand. This required adapting my use of technical language based on their knowledge and technical ability. I have been thanked on numerous occasions for explaining clearly, without being patronising. I have industry experience in.NET. While at university, I really enjoyed working in C++, this being a language I am eager to extend my skill set in. I find coding to be a creative skill as it allows you to problem solve and think outside the box. I believe that this love of creativity is reflected outside of work in my hobbies; including painting, sewing and playing the cello.
