About Hannah Oler

I graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2017 with a Bachelors of Design. I majored in illustration. My work experience in the design industry began with internships and commissions. After my second year of college I interned at The Banff Centre where I learned about the basics of the industry. There I had the opportunity to design the 2015 Employee Service Celebration, inspired by the mountain on which the centre is located: Sleeping Buffalo Mountain. After my third year of college I had the opportunity to intern at Wordfest, Calgary's biggest literary festival. My skills expanded through my experiences doing web and print design there. I had the chance to art direct their largest print publication of the year, the 60-page festival guide for 2016. In 2017 they commissioned me to do a logo for a new event which launched in April of that year. I have ongoing commissions with private and commercial clients. Argentic Multimedia has commissioned me for various illustrative works repeatedly from 2015 through 2020. In spring 2020 I did illustrative work for Bayard Press; a two-page spread in their September 2020 issue of Chirp magazine. In 2017 I began working for the Cygnus Design Group, a design consulting company where I learned about placemaking, wayfinding, and environmental graphics. I had the opportunity to work on the new Calgary Zoo wayfinding program by designing a set of custom animal icons for their exhibits, as well as assisting with the design of a site map and the overall signage program. Through Cygnus I have done work for the National Music Centre (Studio Bell), Alberta Health Services at various hospital and healthcare campuses, the Government of BC, Cadillac Fairview, SODO residence, and the largest Residence Inn by Marriot in the world (as of 2019) located in Calgary's Beltline, Government of BC (LWS Strategies), Peaks Hotel & Suites located in Banff, among others.
