About Hannah van

Hello! My name is Hannah Van and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at UTD. Proficient in Java, Python, and C++, I find joy in solving complex problems and developing innovative solutions using technology to help others! I'm currently interested in cybersecurity, data analysis, and financial technology. My journey with coding started in high school, but my love for creating started at a very early age. This early, intrinsic fascination with engineering and seeing my ideas come to life later inspired me to start to code various programs and go into Computer Science, enabling me to design and bring my own ideas into fruition. In high school, I became the president of our Computer Science Student Association, and helped lead our members as we competed in competitions. Realizing the lack of support for women in STEM fields, I also helped found the Girls for STEM Initiative club at my district’s career school, aimed towards sparking interest in and guiding young women through the world of STEM. At UTD, I am a member of SWE, the DFR Software Team, the Terry Scholars, and the UTD Honors College, and am constantly working to hone my technical and interpersonal skills through my coursework, organizations, and projects. Through this, I strive to become an individual that can not only fully achieve complex goals set forth, but also be a pillar of maturity and openness that others can rely on and grow from. As a child of immigrant parents, technology played a crucial role in my upbringing as it was one of the primary ways I reclaimed and reconnected with my heritage. Thus, in going down this career path, I plan on utilizing my urge to innovate and my programming knowledge to implement and improve upon current algorithms and programs in information sorting, communications, networking, and security. In an increasingly intertwined world, facilitating that connection between communities is not only vital in spreading knowledge and creativity across country boundaries, but also in allowing others to understand and uplift those who remain unheard.
