About Hannahbella Nel

Hannahbella Nel Citizen scientist, Aurora Guide, Solar science presenter and contributing writer and photographer for Space.com. Usually in winter I work 4 months as an Arctic Adventure travel host/ destination manager, aurora science presenter and Aurora photography guide with tourists and with hotels based at 280 km above the arctic circle. I'm excited to return once covid restrictions allow. In Spring 2018 I was invited to be one in thirty to attend a 4 day space social with the European Space agency in Tromso Norway partaking in seminars and tours with Europe's top space weather professionals from across the space sector. it was amazing! Nov 2019 I was a speaker at the European Space Weather week in Belgium, representing Citizen science and Aurorasurus, speaking about the northern lights, working in astro-tourism and my observations across in both hemispheres. I have traveled across the globe to find darkest skies to capture some of the nights natural beauty. My work and travels have taken me coast to coast across Canada, 6 months exploring New Zealand including teaching astrophotography in Aoraki Dark sky reserve in Tekapo, Southern Iceland Aurora Hunting and being based in the Canadian Rocky Mountains I captured STEVE the Aurora which contributed to research with NASA. Chased the lights around Iceland, Norway and Finnish Lapland. I'm still hoping to see them from UK soil! I have written for, and have been published and featured, both online and in magazines, my portfolio includes; Space.com, BBC Sky at night, BBC Earth, BBC Stargazing, Science Magazine, Sky and Telescope, ESA, NASA, huffington post, NYT, Time Out, BBC Springwatch, Haka Tours NZ, Wavelength surf magazine, Real surfing magazine, Best of Bristol, 365 Bristol, Bristol post, accuweather.com and Bristol life Magazine My passion is to create stunning images that reflect the awe and grandeur of our natural world and the stars above it and to teach and share that magic with others. I travel to seeking some of the least light polluted places on earth, I would love to make a dark sky reserve tour of the planet. Documenting through photography, film and written word. I am currently putting together a book which I hope to publish next autumn. When covid hit I started studying a conservation diploma & started volunteering at a local nature reserve & working as a gardener, my other passions!
