I started my aviation work in the Dutch air force working the F16. After that I spend a few years in General aviation working on Cessna and Piper aircraft with piston engines and small turbo props. I worked on small (Model airplanes) and not so small airplanes (General aviation) but I still had the desire to work on big airplanes. When I finally got the chance to do that, I started at Martinair and have worked for Martinair in total of 24 years. In between two tours of Martinair I worked almost 3 years for Dutchbird which was a small operator and went bankrupt in 2005. At Dutchbird I worked as ground engineer, licensed on the B757 and A320, Maintenance and test run instructor and safety officer. At Martinair I was licensed on MD11, B767, B757, Airbus A320 and Fokker 70/100 aircraft. I also obtained test run licenses for all of these aircraft. During my time at Martinair, I have worked in an unlicensed role on the B747-200,300 and 400, DC10, DC 9, Fokker 50 and A310 airplanes. The last 8 years at Martinair I have been working as Power Plant engineer on RR Tay and GE CF34 engines. During this time I was also running a small engine shop within Martinair were we performed all sorts of small jobs on off-wing series engines, RR Tay engines and the CF34-10E. From the start I always had a special interest in engines and during my career I worked with RR, GE, PW and Garret engines and learned to understand their different philosophy on engine construction and system design. Working at SGI is for me the next higher level and working with contents of lease contracts is a new challenge which I am happy to pursue. My biggest hobby is flying model airplanes and indeed they are powered with small gas turbines as well. One has to do something when not at work for SGI.
