About Hans Schildermans
Hans Schildermans is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Education of University of Vienna. He obtained his doctoral degree from KU Leuven. He was a visiting researcher at University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Johannesburg and National University of La Plata and a teaching fellow at University of Tübingen. He studies conceptualizations of the future of the university, paying specific attention to how its social role has been imagined. Hans is currently working on a research project, titled A University for the People, in which he develops a historical-comparative analysis of various instances of politicization of higher education in postcolonial contexts (FWF Austrian Science Fund). He wrote Experiments in Decolonizing the University. Towards an Ecology of Study (Bloomsbury, 2021). Recent publications by Schildermans appeared in Globalisation, Societies and Education, Journal of Philosophy of Education, and Educational Theory. He is interested in the politics of higher education, critical university studies and the intellectual history of educational reasoning.
