About Harriet Hicks

I am a trained scientist from London (now based up North) with a passion for learning, plants, and all things crafty. I have spent most of my life surrounded by books; first as a reader, then as a librarian assistant and a Children’s bookseller, and now as a content creator for major reference works. Whilst completing my Master’s degree, I realised I love research, and so I made the move into Editorial. Over my career, I have developed many skills and capabilities aside from content creation and workflow development, including successful stakeholder engagement, project management within the digital transformation sphere, and even some coding. I am passionate about building community, and improving public literacy and science engagement. I would like to build a career removing barriers to access to both science and books. I have previously volunteered as a tutor and fundraiser, and my current voluntary work includes: • Title curation and creation of the book database for the Free Books Campaign, a project providing free books by authors of colour to communities with less access to reading material • Mentoring for The Catalyst Collective, an organisation providing professional support for young Black women • Assisting in the running of my local community kitchen • Selling my crafted items to raise funds for charity.
