About Harriet Isecke

Harriet Isecke is a national expert in literacy instruction. She is a frequent speaker at district, state, national, and international literacy conventions. Harriet has been involved in the field of public education for over 38 years as a teacher, literacy coach, curriculum director, and educational consultant. She has been the recipient of the N.J. Best Practice Award for infusing technology into the curriculum, and has been listed in Who’s Who Among American Educators four times. Harriet is also an award winning author. Among her publications are over 20 children’s fiction and nonfiction books, 18 Reader’s Theater plays, primary source guides for students, and differentiated instructional materials for teachers. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award in the area of Special Education and Intervention for her Shakespeare Readers. Her most recent instructional book for teachers is entitled, Backwards Planning: Building Enduring Understanding through Instructional Design. In 2010, Harriet received the first of three innovative research grants from the U.S. Department of Education to develop Readorium, an interactive web-based comprehension program. Students in grades 3-8 learn the strategies and word-learning techniques needed to become thoughtful, analytical readers. Students practice these skills as they read chapter books based on the Next Generation Science Standards with text and support systems that adapt to them as they read.
