About Harriet Smith

I am a passionate and disciplined sustainability professional, currently working at the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), a not-for-profit organisation focused on rating, educating, and advocating for the sustainable built environment. In my role, I am responsible for the launch of the Responsible Products Program, defining what sustainable materials mean for the built environment. Included in this program is the delivery of the Responsible Products Guidelines which are used to recognise product certification initiatives such a SBTi, Cradle to Cradle, and EPDs. Additionally, I am developing a Practical Guide to Circular Procurement which outlines actionable steps, including essential brief requirements and contract clauses to help project teams integrate circularity into their building projects, from design to end-of-life. I also have just over 2 years of experience in Management Consulting at Accenture, a leading technology consulting company. Here, I was involved in delivering a diverse range of projects, from a CRM implementation project, to deploying a $1 billion automated distribution centre for a major Australian supermarket. Notably, I received recognition for my significant contributions to the sustainability team within the Australian and New Zealand team by Australia’s Corporate Citizenship and Development Partnerships Lead. Additionally, I was also noticed for my exceptional standard of client management skills, project delivery and attitude which were declared well above performance expectations.
