About Harriet Thrower

I am the Sustainability and ESG Manager at BDO UK LLP. Previously I was the Sustainability Analyst at McLaren Racing for three years, analysing data related to environmental sustainability across all racing series, including leading the collection, processing, calculating and reporting of GHG data to the GHG Protocol. Reporting includes UN S4CA, SBTi, GSBS, Formula 1, Formula E and annual sustainability reports. I also analysed and interpreted sustainability data, providing data-led insights to support decision making and business cases. I also continuously improved thr GHG methodologies for both accuracy and effieciency. I developed a complex data workflow to automate a bespoke methodology for raw materials and outwork, which increased accuracy and saved multiple days of work per year. I also led the annual GHG footprint audit and verification process, coordinating with the third-party assurance provider. I advisd and supported on internal projects from a sustainability perspective, such as assessments of more sustainable materials and operations, developing strong stakeholder relationships across the company. Previously I have worked as a Carbon Modeller at SEE Sustainability, modelling footprints of primary care facilities. I have a Distinction Masters (MSc) in Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Management from the University of York and a First-Class (Hons) degree (BSc) in Mathematics from Loughborough University. I wrote my Masters dissertation on the future of Formula 1 regarding environmental sustainability and worked for a week with McLaren Racing to develop a sustainability system that monitors, manages, and reports on the sustainability projects and goals within the company. I was the Sustainability Part Time Officer at the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) at the University of York, and wrote a sustainability policy featuring areas in which the University of York can become more sustainable, which was passed by the GSA Council.
