About Harrison Martin

I want LGBTQ+ folks to enjoy healthy lives. That’s why I’m committed to conducting clinical programs and research studies that seek to improve health outcomes for LGBTQ+ people. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a double major in Science in Society and Hispanic Languages and Cultures as well as a minor in Chemistry. My coursework honed my ability to examine the sociocultural dimensions of medicine and, in particular, how societal power structures adversely affect the delivery of care to vulnerable populations, including racial and ethnic minorities and LGBTQ+ individuals. I have witnessed these health disparities play out in real time in both clinical shadowing and community outreach experiences. At present, I work as a Research Assistant in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. My projects aim to reduce HIV and STI incidence at all points along the care continuum with a particular focus on providing services to, and developing interventions for, sexual and gender minorities as well as those with substance use disorders.
