Background
About Harry Profke
I am a Graduate Economist within the Office of Productivity and Red Tape Reduction, located within the Economics and Fiscal branch of Queensland Treasury. I have previous professional experiences as an Energy Modelling Consultant in the ROAM team at EY, and as a Graduate Data Analyst in the VET Student Loans Data and Reporting team within the former Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE). In 2021 I graduated from the University of Queensland (UQ) with a Bachelors of Economics (Honours Class I) with my thesis,"The effects of immigration detention on refugees' trust towards Australians." Prior to my Honours year I completed a dual Bachelors of Economics (majoring in Quantitative Methods) and Bachelors of Science (majoring in Psychology). During my undergraduate degree I had the opportunity to intern as a Summer Scholar at the Institute of Social Science Research, where I predominantly undertook Data Cleaning and ran preliminary analyses of Survey Data collected to analyse how COVID-19 impacted families throughout 2020. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to intern at the Economic Consulting firm NineSquared, where I engaged in data collection, analysis and presentation for the 2018 Fare Benchmarking Report. I also maintained a part-time job at Chemist Warehouse throughout my studies. Furthermore, I've had the chance to participate in UQ Venture's Social Enterprise Program and Start-up Academy. This enabled me to undertake market research, interview potential users, and create business plans for separate social enterprises aimed at tackling foodwaste and unethical consumerism. I've also been able to undertake Probono consulting for the non-for-profit organisations Youngcare and Oxley Creek Catchment Associations, through the Pro Bono Econos UQ society, and the BEL faculties Community Engagement Program, respectively. Moreover, I was an executive on the Oxfam UQ society since from 2020-2021, as well as being a volunteer with Rosie's: Friend's on the Street since 2017. Finally, in 2018 I was an active volunteer for the UQ Refugee Tutoring Society, as well as representing China in the ECOSOC at the 2018 Brisbane Model United Nations.
