About Harry Rook

Having discovered a passion for films since I was little, I’ve always wanted to tell stories; more specifically to write and direct my own films to then experience them with others on the big screen. I’m pursuing a career as a writer director. Directing: Having made my own small productions – Doubt (Music Video), Dawn (Short Film), Rise and Shine (Short Film), etc – I have gained key knowledge in multiple areas to better understand the work and vocabulary each department needs. These experiences have given me strong communication skills, a confident ability with making decisions to solve problems and has further developed my leadership skills. I strive to show initiative with every task as I’m a firm believer in that delegation is only useful if you can demonstrate you’d do the task yourself. This drive has taught me that there is always room to continuously improve. Writing: I have written many scripts in short form, feature length and even an entire television series spanning over eight episodes with each one sitting at an hours run time. This has refined my habits to produce the best quality of creative work, honed my written communication skills and writing to this day continues to remind me what real commitment, effort and motivation to a project feels like. Transferable Skills / Casual Work: My work as a Front of House staff member at the Cardinia Cultural Centre has also developed my ability to manage a team, organise a venue and project plan, communicate with patrons to embody our venue’s values and to facilitate functions, gallery exhibitions and theatre events. These skills are transferable to not only a directing role, but also useful for a writer's room situation where I’ll be inputting ideas and sharing a process with others.
