About Harsh Khatwani

Hey! I’m Harsh—a science filmmaker with a passion for weaving complex science into compelling visual narratives. My journey into filmmaking eventually led me to pursue a PhD at the University of Otago, where I’m exploring how virtual reality can be used to change behaviour towards climate change. I’ve worked with research institutes, production houses, television channels and OTT platforms, translating complex scientific concepts into impactful visual stories. I have also tutored filmmaking skills at the University of Otago. Academically, I hold an M.Sc. in Physics, and a Master’s in Filmmaking from the esteemed Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI). I’ve also studied sound documentaries at ENS Louis Lumière Film School in Paris. My films have been selected at various film festivals, which has been an exciting recognition of my work in science storytelling. Along the way, I’ve been awarded scholarships, including a doctoral scholarship at the University of Otago, as well as scholarships at SRFTI, ENS Louis Lumière, and for attending conferences. Science, films, VR—and a sprinkle of scholarships—my path is a creative mix of curiosity, storytelling, and the drive to make complex ideas accessible.
