About Haydee Borrero

I study the ecology of threatened and rare plant species in tropical forests. Tropical forest ecosystems are rich in plant and animal species that provide valuable services to both the natural world and human society. Globally, natural areas are diminishing in both size and quality due to record levels of human development and a changing climate. Threatened and endangered species are under particular pressures, being rare to begin with can mean highly sensitive to change. Ideally, intervention and targeted conservation planning can increase the odds of a species’ survival and the overall health. In my free time I manage a flock of sheep and small homestead with my partner. We focus on sustainable pasture rotations and agroforestry techniques on a small parcel of pasture/wooded mix with the hopes of local sale and use.
